My quantified year

I tracked everything I read, watched, and wore this year. This is what it taught me.

First, the stats:

  • 4 films (in cinemas)
  • 4 documentaries (watched at home, not including anything I put on in the background while unwell because I wasn't really watching it)
  • 1 TV show (ditto for above)
  • 5 art events
  • 6 other live events (comedy, music, lectures)
  • 63 books (so far, hoping for 65 by year end)

Films:

  • I'm Still Here (Walter Salles) - based on the memoir of Marcelo Rubens Paiva about the 1970s disappearances in Brazil. Incredible story. I cried.
  • Breathless (Jean-Luc Godard) - saw on a whim when I saw the ad for the free French New Wave retrospective at the Art Gallery of NSW. Really enjoyed it.
  • Twinless (James Sweeney) - I've already recommended this but have to again, please see this!
  • Sentimental Value (Joachim Trier) - Devastating, beautiful, much to think about.

Documentaries:

  • The Centre Will Not Hold (Joan Didion) - I will watch / read / listen to anything about Joan.
  • Pretend It's a City (Fran Lebowitz) - sometimes it's nice to hear from people with the grouch turned up to 11 from a respectful distance.
  • Unknown Caller: the High School Catfish - I'd read the news articles about this so was missing the drama of the reveal, but hearing the victims describe it in their own words was still surreal.
  • Grey Gardens - a rewatch of a classic.

TV:

  • Adolescence (Netflix): I famously do not watch really watch TV. I had to watch this, everyone should.

Books:
